Military Threat Against Iran Will Affect Oil Prices

Iran’s Oil Minister Gholam Hossein Nozari says any military threat against the Islamic Republic will affect the rising oil prices.

“When officials’ comments change oil prices by 10 to 15 dollars per barrel, oil prices will be unpredictable in case of any military action against Iran,” he told reporters on Saturday.

Nozari noted that Iran enjoys various capabilities which will never tempt others imagine attacking the country.

He said the Islamic Republic plays a significant role in providing security for the strategic Hormuz Strait.

Referring to the international energy congress in Madrid, he said participants complained about the shortage of investment in oil-rich countries which will jeopardize the security of energy in the future.

“Investment in oil and gas sectors will guarantee the supply of energy in the future. Those who are interested in securing the future of energy should invest in its sectors” he noted.

Nozari said Iranian researchers and scientists sent 270 papers to the congress, 16 of which were presented to the conference.

He said he had meetings with oil ministers from different countries such as Spain, India, Cuba and the Netherlands.

“Iran is the only country after Russia which can provide Europeans with secure energy supplies for a long time,” he said, adding that the EU should be seeking to supply its energy from different sources.

He said European markets are Iran’s main targets, adding that several contracts are being concluded with European companies active in the upstream sectors.

The minister further said the Shell and Total companies have also stressed the continuation of cooperation with Iran, adding that experts are also studying mechanisms to boost cooperation with the companies.

Commenting on the presence of American companies in the Iranian oil and gas sectors, he said US companies will have the opportunity of investing in Iran’s oil and gas industries if they come up with their problems with the US government.

Nozari said the Japanese delegation taking part in the Madrid conference had asked for the continuation of Inpex activities in Iran’s oil industry.

He said Iranians will participate in building a refinery south of Iraq in future, adding that Iran has been having constructive relations with the neighboring Iraq.
