The
company was formed in 1994 for the
development, management and supervision of
thel 2 phases of the South Pars gas field in the
context of 6 buyback contracts, as well as
developing the North Pars gas field and a
project for the exploration of oil layers existing
in the South Pars field.
South Pars gas field,
one of NIOC's own
discoveries, is the largest gas field in the world.
The field is located on the Shelf Boundry with
Qatar in the Persian Gulf, 100 km from the
Iranian coastline. The size of the field on the
part belonging to the Islamic Republic of Iran is
3,700 square km. With a capacity of 13.14
trillion cubic meters, the South Pars gas field
contains 7% of the total world reserves of
natural gas and 38% of that of Iran's. There is
a layer of oil with 5 bn barrels of recoverable
reserve in the field.
The first phase of
the project, consisting of
production, refining and transfer of 28 million
cubic meters of gas, 40,000 barrels of
condensates and 200 tons of sulfur per day is
underway. The 2nd and 3rd phases for the
production, refining and transfer of 50 million
cubic meters of gas, 80,000 barrels of
condensates and 400 tons of sulfur per day are
under implementation.
Contracts on phases
4 through 8, already
signed,include the following:
• Phases 4 and 5: Production,
refining and transfer of 50 million
cubic meters of gas, 80,000 barrels of condensates,
400 tons of sulfur; 2 million cubic
meters of ethane per day and production
of 1.050 million tons of LPG per year.
•Phases
6,7 and 8: Production of 84 million cubic
meters of gas per day, 120,000 barrels of
condesate per day and 1.2 million tons of LPG
per year.
•
Tenders for phases 9 through 12 are in the
process
of being finalized, which will consist of
the total production, refining and transfer of
114 million cubic meters of gas, 160,000 barrels
of condensates, 800 tons sulfur and 4.85
million cubic meters of ethane per day and
the annual production of 2.250 million tons
of LPG.
